I have been on a challenge of reading “30 Books in 2013” and one of the 18 books i have read so far is an interesting one by Charles Oham entitled “Seed Business” – Thinking Big, Starting Small. The book talked about using our core competencies, gifts and talents as “seed” upon which we can build a profitable business. It went to say that that we are all in business whether we know it or not and that we should keep our minds on (to nurture and develop) those businesses. Did you know that it is possible to be in the business of being unemployed? I read it in the book and ‘Yes’, that was new to me too.
Coincidentally, a 14-year-old girl in our church recently informed me that she would like to have her own photographic studio by the age of 20. I asked her what she thought she would need to make that happen to which she replied “Money – lots of it – to get a place, equip it with cameras and stuff”.
The rest our conversation went something like this:
How will the business make money? – From taking pictures
What will be your main subject(s)? – People (individuals and families)
Does anyone know you can take pictures? Yes – My parents
How will anyone know you can take good pictures? – I will advertise.
Where? – On the Internet.
In that case why don’t you begin small by showcasing your work on your website? Can you do that? – I think so
I know you can. Actually that’s the best way to go. Start small, don’t incur debt but keep the big dream alive.
Most people would like to start a home business. They like the freedom of being able to work whenever they want to or wherever they want to. However, it is not easy to get there because many are stuck in a rut! They feel that it would take too much time an effort to make any changes. Some people even whine that they are too tired to do anything the moment they reach home! Whatever your excuses, I want to help you find a starting point to your NEW life with my next few posts – just read them, try them and make your comments on them.
The Internet is a place that is filled with endless possibilities. It is very easy to find a business model that makes money for anyone as long as they put in the effort to learn and work hard. Over the next few weeks I will be presenting you with some business models used on the Internet. Once you learn them, all that it is left to do is that you believe in yourself and believe that you will be able to free yourself from the shackles of your 9-5 job and you will be able to find the means to achieve it.
Watch out for the next post.
